Teak is the wood of choice for many individuals and manufacturers because of its’ high natural oil content that makes it resistant to weather, water, sun and other outdoor elements that can rot and destroy other wood species. Teak is a close grain hardwood that also resists warping and insects and due to its durability, it has been used in boat manufacturing for hundreds of years. Caring for teak patio furniture can range from doing nothing and allowing the sun to age the wood naturally to a silver gray color to treating and sealing the wood every 6 to 12 months depending on the environmental conditions where you live. This article takes you through the steps of cleaning and treating teak to maintain its golden brown color. Keep in mind however that even treated teak will turn silver gray from the suns UV rays after treating and sealing unless it is done on a regular basis.
